附录 1-1：多个宇宙和玉兔

最近有人提出说如果有无限（或极多）的其他物质宇宙存在，那么我们宇宙中偶然出现生命的极度不可能性也许就可以被推翻。他们通常认为这些宇宙与我们的宇宙平行，因而甚至从理论上讲这些宇宙是观测不到的； 55 但有时又说我们也许能通过某种方式和他们来往。

这种说法完全没有理性，毫无科学可言。它既没有任何可观察到的证据作为依据，又不是物理学上自然产生的理论预测。如果这些宇宙是‘平行'、绝不接触的，那我们又怎能观测到它们，或是受到它们的任何影响呢？如果数量无限，我们又怎能数算，又怎能知道它们是无限的？我们所不能观测、不能测量的不是科学。

但即使我们假想这些宇宙的数量是有限的，理论上也可以通过某些方式观测到它们，我们还是没理由相信它们存在，因为没有人曾观察到类似的东西。这就相当于我们相信月球上有玉兔——即使没人找到！

是什么使这种观点令天文学家和大众如此着迷？换句话说，这种观点产生的根由是什么？只要读一读大众刊物上的相关描述，就知道这种空想的动机所在了。多个宇宙的白日梦显然是‘即使在号称有 200 亿年历史的全宇宙各地中，生命日益明显不可能是偶然进化而来'这一事实的潜在出路。尽管课本和大众刊物总是否认，但这一事实使得无神论进化论者越来越坐立不安。不用说，他们不愿得出一个合乎逻辑的结论——有一位存在于他所造宇宙之外的神。为了‘解决'这个概率问题，他们假设有许多（或无限）和这宇宙一样的其他宇宙存在，这样生命就迟早可能偶然产生。
没有能证明任何其他宇宙存在的任何证据，我们不应该相信毫无依据的断言。
